Ok, I am going to come out and tell you I hate the Mets. I hated them since Gary Carter, Keith Hernandez and the rest of those yahoos won the series in 1986. So, I want to take a look at the respective salary caps of both teams to prove my point that the Mets really do suck.
Since that world series win in 1986, the New York Mets have spent about 250 million dollars more than the Phillies have. So, looking back over 20 years, the Mets have averaged about 12.5 million dollars more than the Phillies. This should get you about two quality starting pitchers or one superstar pitcher to take you to the promise land. What have the Mets done? Nothing…nada…zip. The Phillies have the same amount of titles as the Mets got in the same time period.
So, why am I bashing the Mets? Because I am going to every home Phillies game versus the Mets this year. I want to be able to tell my Mets friends’ ( whom I believe to be retarded ) that their team not only blows, but spends their money as foolishly as a kid in the candy store. I would love to hear from the salary cap crowd what they think about the Mets. God, I hate you Gary Carter.

ok I see you maybe hating Strawberry, or Gooden due to thier history with the law and what ever else you can think of, but……….Gary Carter? He was as classy of a guy as you could possibly be, and a great catcher, and a great person who played the sport for the sport. If you want to talk about salaries, you are complaining about the wrong NY team. I am from NY and I hate the yankees simply becuase they cant win a championship, they have to try and buy one. So the phillies are cheap. Just guessing I will say almost every team spent more than the phillies on payroll. If you ask me just like buffalo bills of football, they need to either put up the money, or sell off and get out of the buisness.
Funny…
First, no offense. I normally see all the Phillies Mets games in person. My best friend and a coworker are Mets fans, so I like to take shots at them in the blog. You are right, Gary Carter was one of the best players the Mets ever had. He worked hard, did his job, and played with passion. That’s why I like to make fun if him because the other Mets like Gooden and Strawberry are just too easy.
Second, let me tell you about the best Strawberry story ever. I was in Oakland at the time and the Yankees were having that incredible season of like 125-50. Anyway, it was a double header and the Yankees had won the first game. My friend passed out in the stands during the second game(too much beer) and I watched the A’s go up 5-1 through 8. My friend wakes up, looks at the score, and says all we need to do is load the bases and have Strawberry hit a grand slam. Yeah, like that is going to happen. Well, as if the stars lined up or something, the Yankees load the bases. Pinch hitter, Strawberry comes to the plate. My friend looks at me says told you. He crushed one, tie game. The Yankees go on to score 5 more runs in the top of the ninth to win that game 10-5.
Strawberry gave me the best baseball moment of my life, so I actually love the guy for that. The other stuff he did means little to that moment for me. Here’s a big salary cap salute to my favorite coke fiend.
