Salary Cap

Sports and the money it generates for salary caps

I also posted this as a comment for you, but I feel that I should let the whole world see this response as a post.  This is my response to the question of how in the heck are the patriots signing everyone without going over the salary cap.

“First, nice to see someone that hates the cheating patriots as much as I do. I only hate Dallas more, but that is a different story. I looked over the cap numbers and I have absolutely no idea how New England cannot be over the cap. Basically, they are mortgaging the future for this upcoming year. You can only keep putting off paying people’s salaries for so long before you end up like the 49ers. And we can see what kind of salary cap hell they have had to endure. I also would not be surprised if new england does not sign all of their rookies. Remember, when you draft someone, it does not mean you have to sign them and take a hit to the cap. I would expect New England to sign from the top down until they run out of money. However, any injuries to this team and the Patriots go from a team expected to vie for a superbowl to a high priced mediocre team. If I were you, I would pray for horrible injuries to NE players in week one of the season. One last note to help you get through the off-season my Pa brother, Moss is a cancer like Owens. “Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.” In other words, if you have acted like a locker room cancer your whole life(30+ years), you will not change because you have Brady/Belichick telling you to change. ”

So you can see, I feel like the moves have made the patriots the team to beat, but they are about two injuries away from being complete trash(22 injuries away from being the Redskins).  I would also like to take this time to give a quick shout out to the Philadelphia Eagles draft.  I mean, WTF, Heckert and Reid were definitely into the stash of drugs Andy’s sons have.  I will be shocked if one of these bums becomes a starter in the NFL.  I even graduated from PSU, but you are telling me Tony Hunt was better than Michael Bush?  They just don’t get  it when it comes to drafting a big running back.  Thank God the offensive line is the best in the game, because Christ, was that draft painful to watch.

And just to show everyone that I am not the only one wondering about what the patriots are doing lately, read this latest article about patriots craziness.

First, big shout out to the Redskins blog that pointed out that the fight between my father and I is absurd.  I agree, Donovan McNabb is at the very least a top five quarterback in this league.  In the whacky world of salary caps in the nfl, the so called huge salary for Donovan nows looks pretty normal to the point of just average.  The philadelphia eagles have pretty much solidified their team for the upcoming draft, so I expect just about anyone for Saturday’s picks.

Moving on, let’s talk about the draft before I go and bash the Washington nationals, er, redskins.  Leading up to this draft, I have noticed how unspectacular the talent seems to be this year.  I mean in the way that not one of the draftees have any personality at all.  The best tackle and a top five pick Joe Thomas is going fishing.  The top pick, Jamarcus russell, is more of a work in progress.  I wish Calvin Johnson would start talking some stuff about how if he doesn’t go number 1 overall he will make those teams pay dearly.  I guess we don’t have any deon sanders types this year.  sigh.  Mel Kiper and I are going to be spending lots of time this weekend together.  I hope he throws some zingers at teams that suck..which brings me to the topic we are all dying to read about…

The washington redskins.  Ok, lets break down this god awful team by salary cap only.  Daniel snyder has to be the worst GM/president who will throw big money at every piece of crap player on the market.  Then, you have joe gibbs.  The NFL past this guy by in the 1990’s.  The days of poor drafting and bad cap management will leave redskins fans suffering for the next 10 years.  I was going to go into the money aspect, but I decided that the truth would hurt too much.  My predication for the upcoming season for washington is 5-11.  This is not a repeat, just the way I see this awful team.

So, I am looking at my rankings in google and my site disappeared for the keyword, salary cap.  Cannot find my site at all.  So I go to http://www.webrankinfo.com/english/tools/google-data-centers.php to see if this is my problem for my data center or an overall problem.  It is just my damn google data center is being totally stupid today.  It makes me want to call google and ask why this happens to my site for my data center.  GRRRR!

Back to the damn Philadelphia Phillies, I went to the game last night between them and the New York Mets.  Well, this was the coldest game ever.  I keep hearing about climate change, but I sure don’t see any warmth.  It doesn’t matter that the Phillies have crapped the bed in April, again.  I mean, two on, no one out, with Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, and Pat Burrell up.  Strike out, Strike out, Pop up.  Are you F***ing kidding me?  Then, the bull pen comes in.  The mets fans were asking for Madson and Geary to come in.  You  know when your bullpen has hit rock bottom when there is a groan from the home crowd when someone comes in.  Pat Gillick needs to fix this or we will never see post season action.  Salary cap refuses to go to another game until it gets either, 1. warmer, or 2. the phillies earn their money and win some damn games!

Well, here it is…my blogging thoughts about race.  Today, we have the dismissal of the “duke rape case”, the suspensions of “pacman” Jones and Chris Henry, and also the “nappy headed hos” of Rutgers via Imus.  So, where do I start?  Let’s take them one at a time and then give a whole big summary at the end.

First, the Duke case.  People’s poor life choices and lack of personal responsibilty was about 100 percent of this story.  The “victim” made poor life choices and now has to dance half naked to feed her illegitimate children.  The Lax players made a poor choice of hiring a drunk stripper to a drunken frat party.  And DA Nifong lacked personal responsibilty to just drop the case, but his ego got in the way of his better judgement.  Nothing to do with race or class, just idiots all the way around and everyone got exactly what they desreved for making their choices.  Has everything to do with sports and why we treat them differently in our society.  You never here about the computer club’s stripper party.  And do NOT get me started on the racist Jesse Jackson.

The second is the suspensions dealt out by the Commish on “pacman” Jones and Chris Henry.  You know, when the rest of the league turns on you and says you deserved to be punished for your actions, you really f***ed up.  I mean, you have the “murderer” Ray Lewis saying these guys are out of control.  I want to know where is the outcry, the outrage, the anything from left-wing liberals about how these guys are being singled out because of their race.  How about the black community saying these guys are giving “African-Americans”(I am an american, not any other bullshit nationality) a bad name?  How about the black community saying these guys should be punished at all?  Where is the outrage on this?

Third, Imus.  Just goes to show you that ignorance comes in all shapes.  He certainly has the shock part down of his title shock jock.  A wonderful team puts together a cinderella run and they get called names for it?  Are we back in the sixties?  Imus has no personally responsibilty and deserves everything he has sown with that one comment.  Rutgers, you ladies are my reason for even watching women’s basketball this year.  Take a bow.

So, in summation, race is stupid.  Life choices and personal responsibilty are not.  Sports creates headlines in our society today because we lack real heroes and leadership from top to bottom.  Salary cap has dated and been friends with just about every different race out there.  My friends are not determined by their skin color, but by their actions.  Stay in school, get an education, find a job, and work your ass off to achieve your dreams.  There is no easy money and much of the time the pursuit of easy money will make your journey to the dark side complete.   I am now getting down from my soap box.

So I was visiting my father this weekend and got into an easter debate about the Philadelphia Eagles chances this upcoming year.  Quick note, this is normally the time we talk about how the Flyers/Sixers have no chance, but since they graced us by not making the playoffs, we were stuck with the eagles.(The phillies are 1-5 and I am in pain)  I told him that I own a blog named for salary cap.  He preceded to tell me that there is no way Donovan McNabb will win the Superbowl.

OK, lets backtrack a little bit.  First, he said that the Eagles had resigned Koy Detmer.  Wrong.  Then, my father said Koy’s salary was only 100,000 dollars a year, due to the fact that Koy doesn’t need the money.  wrong.  Then, he said that the minimum salary for an NFl player is 50,000 dollars.  WAY WRONG.  Depending on the years of service, it is at least 225,000 dollars(and this is for a rookie).  So, I try to figure out why dad wants Koy Detemer.  Then he hits me with the he is a better quarterback than Donovan.  WHAT?!

This is why a lifetime eagles fan thinks Donovan cannot win.  He believes that Donovan changes the plays at the line from run to pass at least 20 times a game.  This is why the ratio is so skewed to the pass.  So, I am giving everyone a chance to voice their opinions on such a statement.  If you think Dad is right, vote for him in the poll.  I belive that the Eagles no longer thought they had a chance and decided to see if they could run the ball behind the best line in football.(and this is why the Eagles should win the superbowl no matter who is snapping the ball)  If you believe I am right, vote for me.  And if you think that we are both idiots, I will give you a chance to voice that too.  Salary cap does not discriminate unless you are a Mets/Dallas cowboys fan.  I just hate your kind.

I want to wish everyone a happy easter.  This will have nothing to do with sports or money, but let me tell you how my mother tricked me.  She is lucky I wasn’t armed.

Anyway, my father called me two months ago and asked me to help him with his coin club’s something or other.  So, me being the good son(and one who has no calendar) told him when was it.  He goes it is on April 7th, a Saturday.  I agree like an IDIOT.

Fast foward to Monday.  I realize that this is Easter weekend and that I have to visit my parents.  I call my mom complaining right away that I can’t believe that she has me coming down for the holiday.  She pretends that she had no idea that this weekend was Easter laughing under her breath.  Now, I love my parents and I know how fortunate I am to have two parents alive and together my whole life.  But, mom wears me down.  She can talk your ear off.  That, and she always disapproves the fact that I am the only son not married.  She asks if I have a girlfriend or if there is a chance of settling down.  Three days of this nonsense.

Anyway, I want to wish everyone a happy easter and may god bless you throughout the holiday season.

I want to go on record and state that the Phillies lost their home opener.  I was met by my coworker who gleefully stated that the Phillies are on pace to be 0-162.  He is about as funny as cancer.

Anyway, mlb salary caps are in full view to start the season.  While the NFl has shown that any of the 32 teams can win from year to year(Detroit being the only team destined to lose as long as Matt is in charge) baseball only has about 10-12 teams realistically with a shot at the title.  So, while I would normally go into the salary cap rant about why baseball is no longer America’s past time, I will instead start to cheer for all the teams with no chance.  I am going to keep an eye on you, Kansas City Royals, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Montreal Expos, er, Washington Nationals.  If these teams have more wins than the Yankees and Red sox, I will be shocked.  Anyone else agree?
