Phillies-Mets. Friday June 29th. Salary cap has had to listen to outfield talk about how his precious little Mets have been in first all year. Well, it is payback time. Mr. Fumbles, owner of a college football recruiting blog, and I are going to slam beers and make fun of the mets fans at the game, in the parking lot, along the way, etc. I hate you New York. I am tired of listening to how lucky you guys were in winning the 1986 world series. You suck and you know it. I also hate the Atlanta Braves, but that is for another day.
Salary cap has noticed an upstart New York Mets blog has taken a keen interest into the going ons here at Salary Cap. The outfield blog talks about how much he hates me and Philadelphia phillies fans. Who is this idiot? Could it be a co-worker that is going to the double header Mets-Phillies on Friday, June 29th, Citizens Bank Park? Well, the answer to this question will be for salary cap fans to figure out. Also, good job on beating up on the A’s and cardinals. I love how mets fans think their team is good again after they kick the crap out of bad teams.
Salary cap is fresh from a great weekend with the parents. The complete goal for this week is to get ready for the New York Mets. The Philadelphia Phillies are poised to sweep this bums for a second straight time this month. Lets face it, New York is on the verge of collasping. All anyone has to do is look at Paul Lo Duca’s meltdown on strike number two to see the state of insanity on display in the New York Mets’ clubhouse.
So Salary cap caught a boat load of fish on the Delaware Bay this weekend. I also caught a nice sunburn on my back. Thats the last time I let a girlfriend of my brother rub lotion on my back. She did me wrong. Salary cap also got to see the new vehicle the parents bought. The Dad seemed to be happy with no longer shifting. You are getting old. I guess my favorite quote from the awesome weekend was from the Dad. “It takes a lot of work to get a little bit of enjoyment”. My response, “no truer words have ever been spoken”. Thanks for the memories and Salary cap says Lets go Phillies!
So the NHL draft is scheduled for prime time this week. Before the start of the draft, the Philadelphia Flyers traded the 23st pick in the draft back to the Nashville Predators. Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnell come on down. Salary cap has looked at this trade as a sign of more trades to come in this underwhelming draft. The Philadelphia Flyers have hit gold once again with this trade. Remember when the Flyers traded away Mark Recchi for John Leclair and Eric Desjardins? Well, this trade reminds salary cap of the same thing. A stud defenseman who knows how to handle the point on the Power play(which the Philadelphia Flyers have missed this year) and a young left winger about to turn 26 years old. If you think about it, John Leclair was a relatively no one before he got to Philly. Same thing about Scott Hartnell. Get used to that name, he is going to be scoring in bunches this upcoming year. With the second overall pick, which I would assume Philly uses on a number one center, this team has the makings of being a playoff contender this year already. In less than 4 months, the Flyers have secured the number one goalie, number one defenseman, youngest and number one free agent in Scott Hartnell and still have the number two overall pick. Salary caps excitement for hockey is starting already. Lets get ready to rumble…..
The NFL salary cap has been set for around 109 milion dollars with no limit in sight to the ceiling. The limit of players on a team though has caused more parity then any salary cap inforced though. Lets look at the Philadelphia Eagles situation as a good example. The Washington Redskins would be the exact opposite of this scenario.
The Philadelphia Eagles manage their salary cap with a formula developed to continue to put the best team on the field out of the 53 players allowed(and 8 on the practice squad). However, because of the limit on the number of players, the Eagles have to cut anywhere from five to ten quality players each year. The Eagles build through the draft and have to develop the talent. Sometimes, it takes 2 to 3 years to get a player to the level needed to be successful on the team. The problem is that the Eagles dont have that kind of time to devote to one player due to the number of new players each year in the draft.
My proposal is to have 25 players on the practice squad with 12 of them protected from being scooped up by other teams. This way, NFL teams can develop players the right way. Imagine if the Eagles had all of their draft picks stick around for year or two to see if they develop. How good could a team be then? Salary cap thinks this idea would make the most sense to establish dominate teams again. The NFL’s parity is good, but many young players never get their chance to shine.
Like all other nascar fans, salary cap was very interested in the biggest free agent of all-time in Dale Earnhardt Junior. While I am a Rick Hendrick fan(go Jimmie Johnson) I never thought that Junior would join my team. Part of me didnt want him because I like rooting against him and the other part of me saw no more room at the inn for Dale Earnhardt Junior. Shock and awe when salary cap saw that Hendrick Motor sports added the biggest star in the sport. So, my question to all fans is this, does this move make HMR the Yankees of Nascar? Is this move similar to Alex Rodriguez joining the Bronx Bombers? Will this jinx the team? Does this mean I hate Tony Stewart even more? Is that possible?
The last part of this salary cap rant is about the NBA finals. If you didn’t know, the Snors won 4-0 over the King. Lebron James needs help to compete against the west. This is the text messages between salary cap and the mexican.
Mexican: The finals r so horrible to watch, that i am actually watching real salt lake play fc dallas
Salary cap: Five minutes earlier before you text i was watching soccer. I like to think i made the right call. The finals are horrible. Paris bad.
Mexican: LOL…PARIS
So there you have it. Two devoted basketball fans that turned to MLS soccer instead of game four of the NBA finals. I know why Paris Hilton was crying and going mental. It wasn’t incarceration. She was being forced to watch The Spurs versus the Cavs. Now thats a crime.
Welcome back to the show the never ends. Salary cap is coming to you live from Pottsville,PA. Home town of the famous Yeungling beer, Two hospitals for 10,000 people, and the largest percentage of alcholism per county in pennsylvania. But, I digress. Let’s talk about Philadelphia sports teams(actually the phillies and donovan McNabb).
The philadelphia phillies. First, I might have been wrong about Adam Eaton. He just won his 7th game in the first two and one half months of the season. An earlier post broke down his contract(horrific that it still is). However, salary cap has been wrong on him. The rest of the phillies(minus cole hamels, of course) are just good enough to break my heart for the 28th consecutive season. These clowns of pitching look great one day, then, unbeknowst to me, the gambler, take a dive. My advice, do not bet on Jamie Moyer or Freddy Garcia.
Now, the hitting for the phillies has been slowly picking up as the days have gotten hotter. Since coming off the DL, Ryan Howard has lead the charge by hitting .316 with seven homeruns. Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins have 22 homers between them, which is tops for middle infielders in the major league. While Wes Helms has been a terrible letdown/upgrade, G Dobbs has done a good job at filling up the holes offensively.(side note, the Phillies are 17-5 when G dobbs starts)
The last little something is from salary cap to The Dad. Donavan McNabb is ahead of schedule. He looks good. I am going to have to say that other than the Phillies catching the Mets, McNabb coming back as my quarterback is the best news of the summer.
