Let’s talk about the Philadelphia Phillies and this “historical” event that people in the media(and my Mets coworker) keep bringing up. Salary cap is sick and tired of hearing about 10,000 losses as a franchise. Yes, eventually, if your team is around long enough, they too will have 10,000 losses. I for one, am happy and proud that my team has been around long enough that no one remembers the first loss. It means that my team has a history that dates back before baseball became tainted by steroids, scandals(aka Alex rodriguez) and second tier teams in the same city(aka the New York Mets).
The game last night had the Phillies stuck on 9,999 loses. But, the Phillies showed that teamwork and the blue collar approach is the right way to live, let alone the right way to play the game. With a hurricane force wind storm, the Phillies bailed out the Colorado Rockies ground crew by helping secure the tarp on the field. Shane Victorino used his entire 180 lbs to help hold it down. Later, when the game resumed, Shane was rewarded by the baseball gods by hitting his 11th homerun and leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a win. Good karma is what one gets when you do the noble thing. I am proud of this team. After starting 4-11, the phillies are now 44-44 at the all-star game. No matter how the rest of the season turns out, this is one of salary caps favorite teams of all time. Go Phillies!
