Salary Cap

Sports and the money it generates for salary caps

Well, here it is…my blogging thoughts about race.  Today, we have the dismissal of the “duke rape case”, the suspensions of “pacman” Jones and Chris Henry, and also the “nappy headed hos” of Rutgers via Imus.  So, where do I start?  Let’s take them one at a time and then give a whole big summary at the end.

First, the Duke case.  People’s poor life choices and lack of personal responsibilty was about 100 percent of this story.  The “victim” made poor life choices and now has to dance half naked to feed her illegitimate children.  The Lax players made a poor choice of hiring a drunk stripper to a drunken frat party.  And DA Nifong lacked personal responsibilty to just drop the case, but his ego got in the way of his better judgement.  Nothing to do with race or class, just idiots all the way around and everyone got exactly what they desreved for making their choices.  Has everything to do with sports and why we treat them differently in our society.  You never here about the computer club’s stripper party.  And do NOT get me started on the racist Jesse Jackson.

The second is the suspensions dealt out by the Commish on “pacman” Jones and Chris Henry.  You know, when the rest of the league turns on you and says you deserved to be punished for your actions, you really f***ed up.  I mean, you have the “murderer” Ray Lewis saying these guys are out of control.  I want to know where is the outcry, the outrage, the anything from left-wing liberals about how these guys are being singled out because of their race.  How about the black community saying these guys are giving “African-Americans”(I am an american, not any other bullshit nationality) a bad name?  How about the black community saying these guys should be punished at all?  Where is the outrage on this?

Third, Imus.  Just goes to show you that ignorance comes in all shapes.  He certainly has the shock part down of his title shock jock.  A wonderful team puts together a cinderella run and they get called names for it?  Are we back in the sixties?  Imus has no personally responsibilty and deserves everything he has sown with that one comment.  Rutgers, you ladies are my reason for even watching women’s basketball this year.  Take a bow.

So, in summation, race is stupid.  Life choices and personal responsibilty are not.  Sports creates headlines in our society today because we lack real heroes and leadership from top to bottom.  Salary cap has dated and been friends with just about every different race out there.  My friends are not determined by their skin color, but by their actions.  Stay in school, get an education, find a job, and work your ass off to achieve your dreams.  There is no easy money and much of the time the pursuit of easy money will make your journey to the dark side complete.   I am now getting down from my soap box.

So I was visiting my father this weekend and got into an easter debate about the Philadelphia Eagles chances this upcoming year.  Quick note, this is normally the time we talk about how the Flyers/Sixers have no chance, but since they graced us by not making the playoffs, we were stuck with the eagles.(The phillies are 1-5 and I am in pain)  I told him that I own a blog named for salary cap.  He preceded to tell me that there is no way Donovan McNabb will win the Superbowl.

OK, lets backtrack a little bit.  First, he said that the Eagles had resigned Koy Detmer.  Wrong.  Then, my father said Koy’s salary was only 100,000 dollars a year, due to the fact that Koy doesn’t need the money.  wrong.  Then, he said that the minimum salary for an NFl player is 50,000 dollars.  WAY WRONG.  Depending on the years of service, it is at least 225,000 dollars(and this is for a rookie).  So, I try to figure out why dad wants Koy Detemer.  Then he hits me with the he is a better quarterback than Donovan.  WHAT?!

This is why a lifetime eagles fan thinks Donovan cannot win.  He believes that Donovan changes the plays at the line from run to pass at least 20 times a game.  This is why the ratio is so skewed to the pass.  So, I am giving everyone a chance to voice their opinions on such a statement.  If you think Dad is right, vote for him in the poll.  I belive that the Eagles no longer thought they had a chance and decided to see if they could run the ball behind the best line in football.(and this is why the Eagles should win the superbowl no matter who is snapping the ball)  If you believe I am right, vote for me.  And if you think that we are both idiots, I will give you a chance to voice that too.  Salary cap does not discriminate unless you are a Mets/Dallas cowboys fan.  I just hate your kind.

Well, if you have been paying attention to the situation around the nfl, you will have noticed that the Eagles are primed to take over the NFC once again.  No, I don’t mean on the field(even though that would be nice), I mean when it comes to cap room.  Let’s talk about the amount of room your team has compared to the Philadelphia Eagles and the rosters(amount of starters from last year to this coming year).

The Philadelphia Eagles have 21 of 22 starters back this year under contract.  Donte Stallworth and his un-godly contract for his half-hearted injured talent is the only one missing. Ok, Michael Lewis and Jeff Garcia are gone too, but I would say they were backups coming into this season anyway, behind Donavan McNabb and Considine.  Any hoot, The Eagles replaced Stallworth with not only a tough, very quick receiver, but a standout in the community in former Rams receiver Kevin Curtis.  So, the Eagles have roughly 4 million dollars left under the salary cap for this year with all the starters back.  So a team that had numerous injuries that would devastate any other team won their division and won a playoff game.  So adding back the injuried players and a good draft(I am a little spoiled since the drafts of late have been really good) should make this team in a great situation for the year with their cap numbers.

The thing that makes everyone here at salary cap land excited is the Philadelphia Eagles cap room in 2008.  We are talking 21 of 22 projected starters (L.J. Smith the only one) under contract and the Eagles in the neighborhood of 25 million UNDER the salary cap.  Are you kidding me?  The Eagles are the class of the NFL when it comes to managing the cap.  Does this mean championships.  Well, no.  It just means the Eagles will be competitve for a long time(in nfl standards, I would guess five more years).  So, If you are a Dallas Cowboys fan, A NewYork Giants fan, or A Washington Redskins fan(so sorry for you), you will be chasing a monster for years to come.  Good luck!!

Also, is there a more dominant young offensive line in the league.  You can take away my tackles of John Runyan and William “tre” Thomas and I will stack this line up against anyone.  Center Jamaal Jackson(get used to that name, he is a future 5 time pro bowler), Guard Shawn Andrews (future 10 time pro bowler), Todd Herramans (Moved to right tackle and would be a future pro bowler), Max Jean-Giles (moved to Guard replacing Herramans and future pro bowler), and Tackle Winston Justice(moved to tackle replacing Thomas).  This line, in my opinion, could be together for ten years or more and has the potential to be one of the lines talked about for years to come.

I also wanted to run this site by any eagles fan that wants to go to Texas to see the Cowboys play the Eagles.  They do a top notch job and you will be pleased with the whole package.  Dallas Cowboy football game packages.

I just want to go over what the Patriots have been doing for this free agancy period.  Donte Stallworth was signed to a four year contract with a 12 million dollar signing bonus.  WHAT?!  Yeah, that’s right.  A wide receiver who runs poor routes but has some good speed just received a monster contract.  However, the fun doesn’t stop there.  Stallworth hasn’t been injury free for three years.  And he has a substance abuse problem.  Nice.  I guess 12 million dollars is worth the 38 balls this guy caught last year.  Some here would say I am just bitter because I am an Eagles fan.  But that isn’t even it.  I saw this guy for a whole year and was praying that someone else would sign him.  Donte parlayed half ass work ethic and poor choice decisions into a 30 million dollar contract.

Salary cap is astounded by the crazy off season spending.  But so far, without a that, the New England Patriots have been the craziest.  Other than San Fransisco, Kansas City, Washington, and Miami.  But these teams always suck with their free agent choices which makes the Patriots the nfl team that takes the title for stupidity.

Ok, what in the world is going on.  Nfl players that are backups are starting to get some serious mad money out there.  I am throwing in the towel of the Philadelphia Eagles getting anyone other than Bethel Johnson.  When the New England Patriots start spending like kids in a candy shop, you know that todays NFl is no longer your father’s football league.

I guess I will wait until the draft to see what happens with new blood coming to my team.  Oh, and if you are a 49ers fan, way to spend on sub standard talent.  Idiots.

I want to be the one to come out abd apologize to anyone who tried to leave a comment here.  I was messing around with a new spam controller and accidently set the thing on killer mode.  I am not sure how long it has been this way, But I have over 400 spam deleted comments on it.  So, if you left a comment, I apologize that it didn’t get posted.

I blame the guys I work with, but they are programmers and basically get defensive when you say anything to them.  So, salary cap is now back in business and ready to field questions once again.  Thank you for your patience.

I was looking over my performance on the search engines and I see I have finally made the front page after 5 long months in google for the term salary cap.  If you didn’t know it, this site has been mostly to show my clients that you can rank for any term if you put some effort into it.

I started out with only one back link and no knowledge of how a blog works.  In fact, I googled the term blog because even though I had heard of it before, I really had no idea what it meant.  In between graduating college, getting a new job, getting out of a weird and crazy relationship(see intellectualwhores.com ), and looking for a new house, I had time to write once or twice every week about nothing.  If I ever really tried to rank this site, now that I know what I am doing, I would be number one in all three serps for the term salary cap.  Not bragging, just stating a fact.  So, if you want to know about salary caps in any sports, please leave me a comment.  I will look it up and do the best I can to find the answer for you.  Seriously, I have nothing better to do.

First of all, salary cap wants to laugh at all the fans reading this.  You probably are a Redskins fan.  Nice season.  Not only did you finish dead last, but you did it with the highest payroll in the league.  Significant action has to be taken to clear all the contracts needed just to sign the incoming rookies.

While I am on the subject, what ever happened to the 1980’s.  The world picture was so much clearer.  We hated Russia, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson ruled the “exciting” NBA, and the Redskins had a good football team.  Now, 20 years later, Washington has nothing to show except high priced talent that are just stealing paychecks.  Until Washington has a winning season, I am going to refer to them as the Washington thieves.

Salary cap has stated before that the increased revenues has made free agency almost none existent.  Teams are only going to release players that or either flawed or asking for an inflated amount of money.

The true state of the salary cap will come in about 2 years when all the money is used up by the players.  Then teams like the Newengalnd Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles will shine through.  Parody is only for the teams unwise with their money.

Starting next year(which is actually this year), salary cap is going to predict all NFL games to see how I stack up against the experts.

The superbowl is one that features a great airiel attack of the Indianapolis Colts versus the great defense of the Chicago Bears.  Didn’t I see this match up when Oakland play Tampa Bay.  The Defense kills the Offense.  I see the same when I look at this matchup.  I like the Bears.  Chicago 38 Indianapolis 17.

Side note:  One of salary cap’s buddies is a huge Colts fan.  If the colts win, I promised him a hooker.  Anyone know of one just in case?
