Memphis Now has Evans

Tyreke Evans, the most valuable player of the McDonald’s All-American game last month, announced his decision Wednesday at a news conference surrounded by his family at American Christian School.

A three-time state player of the year, Evans averaged 29 points per game as a senior and capped it off with a 21-point, 10-rebound performance in the McDonald’s game.
He seriously considered nearby Villanova settling on the Tigers.

Evans could step directly into the starting spot vacated by Derrick Rose, who announced Tuesday that he is leaving for the NBA after one season with the Tigers. Chris Douglas-Roberts, the team’s leading scorer and Conference USA player of the year, may also end up in the NBA next season.

Evans, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard who excels at getting to the basket, could follow Rose as a one-and-done member of the Memphis backcourt.

Maroons Debate

Sit back and get ready, because now its on…I mean really on! On April 18th, 2007, Joe Horrigan, Vice President of the Pro Football Hall of Fame will come to Pottsville, Pennsylvania (home of Yuengling) to debate the much anticipated return of “The Stolen NFL 1925 Championship” with ESPN senior writer and Maroons supporter David Fleming. The debate will be held at the newly reconstructed Sovereign Majestic Theater in downtown Pottsville.

According to the Pottsville Republican, Horrigan will take the viewpoint opposing Fleming, an opinion that by their own choice and despite repeated warnings, the Maroons disobeyed an NFL rule and therefore do not deserve the title. Jim Coles the main sports anchor for WNEP-Newswatch 16 (A Northeastern and Central Pennsylvania News Network) will moderate the debate between Horrigan and Fleming.

The debate will surley keep the Pottsville Maroons in the recently acquired national spotlight. Fleming has done an outstanding job of circulating his most recent book about the Maroons “Breaker Boys: The NFL’s Greatest Team and the Stolen 1925 Championship“. It has been said to be “selling faster than Harry Potter” in the community and surrounding areas. The February edition of ESPN The Magazine showcased an article about the Maroons and the curse that is said to be held over the cardinals franchise by Maroon fans for their unethical acceptance of the championship

As a kid growing up in the 50’s and 60’s baseball has changed alot. I used to watch home run derby every week. The players of many different teams would show-off their different skills. Today the only time you see something like this is at the All Stars game. There were also those players that kids could look up to. The only thing the players look for now is money. I think Baseball has changed for the worst , but the kids of today will never know that.

How can people compare athletes of today to athletes of yesteryears? Drugs were not used then and players actually cared for their sport instead of the money.
Home runs were hit fairly and with just the athletes skill and ability. How can anyone even try to compare these two. I mean honestly what are the fans actually getting for the price of a ticket?

With 10 Stanley Cups in franchise history , the Detroit Red Wings have methodically steamrolled the competition in the regular season.
The Red Wings, who have earned either the first or second seed in the Western Conference since winning it all six years ago, have won their fifth Presidents’ Trophy to earn home-ice advantage for the duration of its stay in the playoffs this season, as well. Not only has Detroit scored the third -most goals of any team , but the Red Wings have given up the fewest.Unlike previous seasons, when the Red Wings were ousted from the playoffs by seventh-seeded Anaheim in 2003, sixth-seeded Calgary in 2004, eighth-seeded Edmonton in 2006 and second-seeded Anaheim last year, the club has persevered down the stretch despite multiple injuries to key players.

Coach Mike Babcock, who this season became the first in NHL history to win at least 50 games in his first three seasons with a team.

Well the Rangers are off to a great start. Being one of their die-hard fans I am loving the fact that they raped the Devils in game one. Now all we need is 3 more wins to send that bleeding heart team back home.
It is absolutly great that Scott Gomez, formerly a Devil, was a major factor in wiping up the ice with his former team. I could not have been happier.
And we must not forget Callahan who scored a huge shorthanded goal off goalie Martin Brodeur. Callahan swooped in from behind the cage and knocked the puck into the net giving the Rangers an important advantage.

This has been a long time time coming boys so lets grab that Cup!!!

Can the Canadiens defeat Bruins?

Without their captian due to injury and Defenseman Francis Bouillon out, can the Canadiens make it work?

That means Kovalev,the team’s scoring leader this season, will keep the captain’s “C”.
“One reason we were successful this year is that we avoided injuries,” Kovalev said. “It definitely hurts not to have Saku in the lineup, but a lot of guys are hungry ,we’ll see.”

Kovalev had seven goals and 11 points against the Bruins. The Candiens took all eight regular-season games agaisnt the Bruins. Also note that Linemate Andrei Kostitsyn, Mark Streit also had 11 points against Boston, while center Tomas Plekanec had 10.

But the Bruins are healthier than they’ve been all season.But the are starting with a center who has been out since October with a head injury. So we will see just how smart a decision that was on their part.They will need to prepare twice as hard now.
